A treatment for chronic back pain, lower back spasms, degenerative spondylosis and nerve pains, a series of these treatments are amazingly beneficial and relax the total body. The oil container is made from water and flour which forms a dough-like substance. Mahanarayana oil is a good choice. The oil should remain warm, so drain the oil every 10 minutes or so by making a spout with the dough, then re-aligning the walls of the kati. A kati basti should soak into a concentrated area of the body for at least 15 minutes at a minimum or up to one hour at maximum. This is wonderful for sciatica.
DOUGH BASTI APPLICATION by Gauri
The Dough Basti is an important therapy utilized in Ayurveda to apply diffused medicated herbal oils, herbs, ghee, milk, water or essential oils directly on the area of the body treated. This practice allows the herbs to deeply immerse into the tissues for a therapeutic effect. A Dough Dam is placed on the body, which is used to contain the oil for the treatment, allowing the recipient to receive the warm oils for deeper nourishment.
Organic medicated oil, ghee, or milk infused with herbs are retained by a flour dam and placed over the specific area for treatment. Each herbal formula is specifically designed for the individual mind-body constitution and condition.

THE AYURVEDIC DOUGH BASTIS
Chakra Basti - CHAKRA BALANCING:
The second through the fifth chakra are nourished with Dough Dam Bastis. The first is treated with Anuvasana (tonifying) or Niruha (detoxifying) Bastis. The sixth chakra is treated with Shirodhara and the seventh Shirobasti or a reverse Shirodhara. Any imbalances of the Psychic nature affect all the Chakras, the templates of the nervous system, and rarely is one Chakra without a disturbance of the others.
A Dough Dam is placed over chakras 2-5 with the appropriate oil added. Perform Shirodhara or reverse Shirodhara simultaneously.
